Day in the Life: Growth Director @ Azur
Growth can mean a lot of things: revenue, customers, partnerships, product adoption. For Ravi Morjaria, our Director of Growth, it means bringing all of those together to help Azur scale in a fast-moving Insurtech landscape.
We caught up with Ravi to learn what a typical day looks like, what keeps them busy, and what growth really means behind the scenes.
Meet Ravi
- Role: Director of Growth
- Time at company: 2 years
- Background: Ravi began his career in consulting, where he moved into working with insurance clients. It is an industry he jokes “no one ever really plans to go into; you tend to fall into it,” but one he quickly discovered is full of opportunity for innovation and impact.
How the day usually starts
“My day usually starts with a quick look at my calendar to understand the meetings and priorities ahead. I also try to block out time in the morning for uninterrupted thinking time. Having space to focus is particularly important in a growth role.”
What I spend most of my time on
“A large part of my role is focused on how we scale the business and improve how we deliver for clients.”
This includes:
- Rolling out AI capabilities to help speed up delivery
- Speaking with customers to understand how we can improve the product
- Supporting and providing oversight to sales strategy
- Planning our 3-, 6-, and 12-month growth roadmap
Working with the team
“I collaborate most closely with our engineering, product, and sales teams. Good teamwork in my role means bringing together people with different perspectives, including engineering, product, and commercial, and blending those viewpoints to arrive at “the best possible solution.”
The tricky bit
“One of the biggest challenges in my role is navigating the pace of technological change. The world is going through a major technological shift, and part of my role is understanding how these changes will impact our business and our clients, while recognising that not everyone is ready to embrace disruption at the same pace.”
“The speed of change definitely keeps me on my toes. There are weeks where I feel on top of everything, and then something shifts overnight that makes you rethink how it could impact the business.”
The rewarding bit
“What makes the role worthwhile is being able to spend most of my time working on things that genuinely excite me, learning new technologies and then translating those insights into
practical outcomes for the business.”
“A recent win I’m proud of is helping reduce our delivery timelines from months to weeks through new tooling, as well as organising hackathons across the UK, USA, and Philippines
to help teams upskill in these technologies.”
Life at Azur
“Coming from a large consultancy, what stood out to me at Azur was the flat structure. Everyone’s ideas are heard, people are given ownership early on, and there’s a real willingness to learn quickly. I’d describe the culture as energetic, ambitious, and fun.”
Advice for future candidates
“If you’re someone who wants to take ownership of your career, push yourself forward, and embrace change, you’ll thrive here. The Insurtech space is evolving rapidly, and being part of that transformation is incredibly exciting. Growth roles at Azur cover innovation, sales, and product, which may look different from growth roles elsewhere, but it gives you the opportunity to work at the cutting edge of how businesses scale.”
